Cabarete’s Master of the Ocean – MOTO
Master of the Ocean – The Festival
Updated: January 2018
This year the Master of the Ocean or MOTO will begin Saturday, February 24th, 2018 in the water-sport capital of Cabarete, North Coast of the Dominican Republic.
This international competition has been held for 15 years and this year MOTO returns as a Festival on Dominican Independence Day. Master of the Ocean will also be covered by ESPN courtesy of Godomincanrepublic.
If you are visiting the DR during this time I would highly recommend you check it out. Beautiful beaches, plenty of sunshine, great restaurants, music and most importantly – very talented competitors.
Good luck to all!

If you love water sports and enjoy watching the best of the best than the Master of the Ocean in Cabarete, North Shore, Dominican Republic was the place to be last week.
Master of the Ocean (MOTO) was originally conceived as the “Ironman of Watersports” created by a german waterman Marcus Bohm in 2003. Today this great sport is internationally recognized and has four main categories:
- Surfers
- Kitesurfers
- Windsurfers
- Supsurfers
Each athlete will compete in all four categories to determine who will be the true Master of the Ocean. This year MOTO was held from Feb 23rd to the 27th. This great event was exciting to watch and also provided an opportunity to see some amazing athletes compete from all over the world.
Playa Encuentro or Encuentro Beach on the Atlantic Ocean was the perfect playground to host Master of the Ocean. Encuentro Beach is recognized for its’ famous reef breaks in the Caribbean. During the winter time this beach has a north swell which provides excellent conditions for surfing.
We love living in the North Coast and being so close to the ocean is just the best! Congrats to all the athletes that competed in the MOTO and a special congrats to the winner Zane Schweitzer! from Maui, Hawaii .
