We’ve written this piece as a supplement to our guide about Rich’s favourite golf courses on the island. Click here to read more about how the Dominican Republic has become a serious golfing destination for amateurs and professionals alike.

Rich and I live twenty minutes away from Puerto Plata, where the PGA Latin America Tour held their first DR Open, the first event of its kind here. This comes part in parcel due to the rejuvenation projects which have been taking place all across the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. This has solidified the island’s standing as a serious golfing destination.

The tournament was held from June 8 to 11, at the Playa Dorada Golf Course. We attended, although to be honest, I’m not much of a golfer myself… but Rich took some beautiful shots for everyone to see. Take a look!

There is also some great news for next year that was announced at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, in April. What was initially the Corales Puntacana Resort/Club Championship will now be a bona fide PGA Tour, running from March 19 to 25, 2018. Although still a rumour, we are guessing that this will be replacing the Puerto Rico Open… and lately, it sure has felt like it. Rich and I are excited to see some new faces on the island.

Until next time,

Cat
